Role Reversal (Turn Pain Into Power)

All of us hurt. It's a natural part of being a living, feeling human. The longer we spend on earth, the chances increase that we will experience something so hurtful that we can not fathom how we will ever be the same. The truth is, there are some pains we will carry with us throughout our duration on this planet.
Time can help with our wounds but may never fully heal them. The question then becomes, What will you do will that lingering pain? You can allow the pain to change, control, or even consume you. You can deny the pain which can cause it to become toxic if it continues to fester.
What you do with your pain makes all the difference between being weighed down by it or flourishing despite it. I choose to turn my pain into power; to channel it for the purpose of good. It's never a simple task but I'd rather that my suffering become a source of power rather than remain a continued burden.

Pain into power my hurt will turn...

a spiritual lesson is to be learned
  that obstacles increase my yearn
while being underestimated makes me burn.
Sorrow’s advance I constantly spurn.
My faith holds me steady and firm.
Pain into power, my will shall turn.

Power will come from my pain...
no more ground will my enemy gain
by my intent not being made plain.
My way to the kingdom I wish to gain
and I can’t do that by remaining the same
so I call unto Jesus’ name...
What we gonna do with this pain?

Pain power let us make it into...
don’t forget that life is time God lends you,
that’s why the enemy wants to win you
so far apart from God he can send you.
His purpose is to do more than just bend you.
He wants for himself the gifts God gives you.
What better than power to make pain into?

Turn your pain into power...
  manage its caustic showers.
Under its duress dare not you cower,
for you know who’s waiting to devour
souls that by suffering have been soured.
Your faith is an invincible tower-
from that source, build your power.

A Sinner's Prayer

"A Sinner's Prayer" is one of the first pieces I penned when I began writing in my mid 20's. It still rings true today. I can sum it up in a sign that I read just the other day: “If you only pray to God only when you're in trouble, then you're in trouble.”
At the time I wrote this poem, I was just learning how to not allow the unhealthy or unlikeable things about myself to define who I was. That didn't mean that I could ignore those things or traits. It meant and still means dealing with myself truthfully. I am a sinner. I don't always do good, yet God loves me anyway. There is beauty and there is power in knowing that.
I haven't always done good and I haven't always listened to God. Sometimes, I listened to voices of instant gratification instead of those that advocated faith for the long haul. I catch myself still making that same mistake to lesser degrees. I don't beat myself up over it anymore. Instead, I thank God for the lesson and His illumination: that I at least do better than I did before.

A Sinner’s Prayer

God save me from myself-
  that is my constant prayer
as I dive deeper into myself
  into the unaware.

Into the sea of those
  who don’t know You,
  not because they can’t
  but because they won’t.

God, save me from myself
as I dive deeper into myself…

Into this comforting sea of sin
  that eagerly awaits me,
  that deceitfully soothes me
  as I loom impatiently-
Waiting for you to answer me.

Did I miss your call-
for me to come back home,
because I was so busy trying
to make it on my own?

I know that you will spare me
once again in this time of need
  that I have created
out of my own human errors
  and own evil ways.

You are ALL merciful!
It is You who holds tomorrow.
So it is with the deepest of faith
and the saddest of all sorrow.
that I call on You Lord, God
  to save me from myself...
  as I sin impatiently.

Regret, None

No one is perfect, not a single solitary one of us. We all make mistakes. It's up to us what we do with that mistake. Do we negatively internalize that mistake leading us to give up or become angry or bitter? Do we learn from that mistake so that we can become wiser and stronger instead?
The choice lies within the individual. Acknowledge your mistakes so that the lesson you learn from them can serve as the building blocks for a better life. Don't beat yourself up because that will do you no good. Confront your mistake and take its valuable lesson with you.

 Regret, None

Regret during troubling times
  does no one good
  except the devil.

Punishing self doubt figures prominently on all new decisions.

Can’t think with a heavy mind.
You’re at your best
  when you leave
  the mistake behind.

Just take the lesson with you.

You may have been warned,
  maybe severely scorned.
You may have been bad,
  would retract what you said.
You may have seen it coming
  but couldn't react
  to the warning.

There may have been, could have been
  many things
  that went down different.

Can’t question it now
  because you know
  deep down inside...

You made your choices for a reason.

    Author

I want to help uplift, inspire and empower others and to help leave the world a little better than I found it. I am an author, deep thinker & optimist. I know God is love. I am the author of "Candidreams: I Remember the Beginning" and "Role Reversal: Turn Pain Into Power".
It is never my intent to push my spiritual views on others. I'm just sharing some of my own story in hopes that you or someone else will gain from it and can find some strength and hope in it.  As I am fond of saying:  I'm just giving you a little personal information and insight. What you do with it is completely up to you!
