Watch Me Die (Actually...Please Don't!)

Watch Me Die

Is death the creature
  that overtakes my body?
Or is death the disease
  that flows through my veins?

Is death the deterioration
  of my beautiful mind?
Or is death the captivity
  of my proud people?

Is death the shame
of the complexion of my skin?
Or is death the needle
  that spits poison inside me?

Is death the snow
  that covers me
  in a euphoric blizzard?
Or is death the hatred
  that sets my soul afire?

Is Death the confusion
of not knowing where to turn...
when it is justice and equality,
  for which all people yearn?

Or is death the darkness
  that took your soul away
  that you would deny
  any human being
  the simple human basics?

About "Watch Me Die"

I wrote “Watch Me Die” decades ago in my 11th grade Honors English and Creative Writing Class. It is a dark and gruesome take on society's ills. It focuses specifically on our accountability to each other as human beings and fellow citizens. Unfortunately, many of these same issues still plague us today. We know that the ills I mentioned have a devastating effect on people. However, we in general, do not acknowledge many of society's ills until they come knocking at our own door.
Many of us don't see them as a problem until they present themselves in our lives or the lives of someone we know. Even if we have acknowledged their roles in our world, we often feel that there is nothing we can do to help. We have enough on our own plates. How can we help someone else especially when many of our world's problems are rooted in our collective way of living?
I urge those who care yet feel helpless to reconsider. There is always something positive you can do to aid others. It may not be much but there is always something. That something comes in many forms. It can be anything from casting a vote for a prospective official who will address the issues or it may be a correcting word to someone who is unaware of the issues and their true sources.
We are never helpless. Furthermore, we all will face times when we need someone's assistance. We may have to rely on our social and community network to provide resources and support through our struggles. Please don't wait until you need help before you realize the positive impact your words and actions can have on someone currently in need.

Brainiac

Brainiac
(for mature readers only)

I want you to make love to me,
  starting with my brain;
then the lovemaking will be so beautiful,
we’ll do it over and over again.

The motions would be over
  only because we came;
  our bodies mixing so perfectly
  producing sweat and semen rains.

Even the act of just talking to you
  leaves me light and lifted.
If all the Lord did was  just invent you,
He’d still be entirely as gifted.

I’m thinking about you right here and now
  like I’ve been all day
wondering If I’ve been in your thoughts
in some sizzling and sexy way.

My body oozes with desire
  because you intoxicate my mind.
A sexual adventure could await us,
  a spectacularly climactic time.

Your flirtations leave me warm and fuzzy,
  sometimes even smoking hot.
They’ve given me extreme confidence
of your abilities to soothe my spot.

If we ever exchange orgasms,
let us wait til we can’t wait no more.
Until we’re both so ripe and ready,
we break the bed down to the floor.

Lovemaking may be on the horizon,
and if yes is my final decision,
just as you do for my mind,
  make my body your mission.

About "Brainiac"

It's getting hot aside so I chose “Brainiac” as this week's featured poem to bring a little heat of my own Ha! Ha! Terrible jokes aside, I wrote “Brainiac” for a couple of reasons. First, it reflects a part of my evolution as a woman. Most of my love or relationship pieces until then were either overtly sexual, a love wish list, or gripes about my bad experiences. In “Brainiac”, I stress that mental and spiritual connections are the essential foundations for fulfilling and healthy relationships. Many of my earlier involvements had been built on sexual attraction and satisfaction. Raging hormones can diminish anyone's judgment. I don't knock myself for that because I've since grown, evolved, and learned better.
A second reason is due to the spiritual nature of most of my poems. They discuss my relationship with God and my spiritual journey. A couple of my readers expressed shock or dismay that I include sexual pieces in my books right along with the spiritual ones. I do not shy away from sexuality in my writing because it is an important part of each of our beings. It has a tremendous influence on every aspect of our lives. I think the church too often ignores the impact that unfulfilling relationships have on our spirit. In contrast, when there is something not quite right with our spirits, we are more prone to making bad relationship choices. It can be a vicious cycle and is difficult cycle to break.
The devil will do anything to get to us. That includes using the harmful remnants of our failed or unhappy romantic relationships to his advantage. He knows that many of us would rather suffer in silence than speak on our struggles. I'm not proposing that we tell everybody everything. I especially cherish my privacy. I just hope that the church as well as the broader society learns to discuss sexuality without judgment and fear. People need to know that God wants to hear about all their issues even the ones that make us uncomfortable.

    Author

I want to help uplift, inspire and empower others and to help leave the world a little better than I found it. I am an author, deep thinker & optimist. I know God is love. I am the author of "Candidreams: I Remember the Beginning" and "Role Reversal: Turn Pain Into Power".
It is never my intent to push my spiritual views on others. I'm just sharing some of my own story in hopes that you or someone else will gain from it and can find some strength and hope in it.  As I am fond of saying:  I'm just giving you a little personal information and insight. What you do with it is completely up to you!
